Join as a Singer
We hope you're interested in joining our choir!
WMC welcomes anyone who enjoys singing, has a good ear, a good voice, and shows enthusiasm and commitment. Previous choral experience helps although is not essential and an ability to read music would be expected. Applications from Tenors and Basses are particularly welcome although we have vacancies for all voices.
Winchester Music Club is one of Hampshire’s longest established choral groups with an associated orchestra. An independent charity run by its members, the choir benefits greatly from a close association with Winchester College, whose Master of Music, David Thomas, is our musical director. The choir not only enjoys first class facilities for rehearsal, but also the support of other music staff of the college to facilitate sectional practise sessions for the various voice groups and individual voice coaching sessions.
We organise two concerts with professional soloists in a typical year. In November we perform a major choral concert in Winchester Cathedral with Winchester College Chapel Choir and Glee Club accompanied by WMC Orchestra and in the Spring we perform in New Hall, Winchester College. Currently the Spring concerts feature a Haydn Mass as part of our project to perform all of the complete Haydn Masses in the lead up to our centenary. We also hold a charity carol concert and host Choral Workshops and a Come and Sing Event, in the summer.
We currently have about 90 members and we would like to raise this to 100. Come and join us.
