Join the Orchestra

Winchester Music Club Orchestra is composed of a regular set of amateur string players with professionals brought in for the other instrument sections as a particular work might demand.

The regular string players, although amateur, play at a very high standard. If you would like to be considered for the string orchestra, or are a professional non-string player and would like to be put on the players’ list, please contact our conductor Nicholas Wilks for an audition.

Nicholas Wilks also conducts Winchester Symphony Orchestra with playing opportunities for amateurs in all sections. See their website for more details.

What’s involved

Winchester Music Club perform two concerts a year: one on a Thursday in November in Winchester Cathedral and the second on a Saturday in late March or early April usually in New Hall, Winchester College. Rehearsals for the string players are on three or four Tuesday evenings preceding the concerts from 7.30-9.30pm in Winchester College Music School. In addition there are rehearsals for all players in the concert venues: on the preceding Wednesday evening and Thursday afternoon for the November concert, and Friday evening and Saturday afternoon for the spring concert.
